ALBANESE HANDS MINING INDUSTRY OVER TO UNIONS
A push by the Australian Workers Union to re-unionise mine workers in the Pilbara is a direct threat to the competitiveness of Western Australia’s world leading resources industry.
The union power grab is a result of the Albanese Government’s desire to hand over the mining sector to their union mates, just like they gave control of the construction sector to the CFMEU.
Shadow Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Senator Michaelia Cash said: “This is an attack on the productivity of one of our most productive industries.”
“The mining sector has repeatedly warned the Albanese Government of the economic dangers posed by its reckless overhaul of industrial relations laws,’’ Senator Cash said.
“Mining workers already enjoy some of the highest wages and entitlements in the country,’’ she said.
“Extending union power into the Pilbara, is a threat to the mining industry’s efficiency and competitiveness,’’ Senator Cash said.
“The Federal Government’s explicit promise that its industrial relations changes would not give unions increased powers in the Pilbara has proven to be hollow,’’ she said.
“Instead, they’ve empowered unions to impose their will on businesses, even when it goes against the wishes of the employees themselves,’’ Senator Cash said.
“This is further proof the Albanese Government’s laws are a direct attack on Western Australia and our mining industry,’’ she said.
“Mr Albanese keeps saying he gets Western Australia, but this couldn’t be further from the truth,’’ Senator Cash said.
“His government has enacted legislation that directly affects the well-being of our State and the industry that is the engine room of the nation’s economy,’’ she said.
“He has duped Western Australians,’’ Senator Cash said.
