CHANEY A THREAT TO WA OVER NATURE POSITIVE LAWS
The danger of voting for Teal candidate Kate Chaney in the upcoming Federal election has been exposed by her continued reckless support of the Western Australia damaging Nature Positive laws.
Media reports of Ms Chaney saying she will support the resurrection of the controversial laws in the event of a hung Parliament should be of grave concern to all Western Australians.
It also places Prime Minister Anthony Albanese under further pressure to give Western Australians an ironclad guarantee that he will not bring the laws back.
The issue is of vital importance to Western Australia and the revenue cash cow that is our world leading mining and resources industry.
To his credit Labor Premier Roger Cook has made it clear these laws will damage Western Australia’s mining industry, cost jobs and threaten future projects in our State.
Shadow Attorney-General Senator Michaelia Cash said Ms Chaney’s support for these laws is a disaster for Western Australia.
“Mr Albanese had made it very clear the legislation was still on the table and we have Kate Chaney continuing to support the laws and willing to leverage her position in a hung Parliament if she is re-elected,’’ Senator Cash said.
“Kate Chaney should listen to the Premier of WA and the mining industry which has made it very clear that these laws, whether they contain a climate trigger or not, will be a major blow to WA’s economy,’’ she said.
“This legislation will mean delays and cost blow outs for major mining projects across Australia but particularly here in Western Australia,’’ Senator Cash said.
“Mr Albanese is very good at pretending he supports Western Australia and our mining sector but that is all just an act,’’ she said.
“Until he unequivocally rules out imposts on our mining sector Western Australian voters should be very sceptical about what Mr Albanese says,’’ Senator Cash said.
Liberal candidate for Curtin Tom White said voters in the electorate should be very clear that they will be voting against Western Australia’s mining and resources industry if they vote for Kate Chaney.
“The mining and resources industry is the backbone of the WA and Australian economies and Kate Chaney wants to put that under threat,’’ Mr White said.
“Many of the voters in Curtin make their living either directly or indirectly from the mining and resources industry but their local member in Kate Chaney is clearly fighting against them,’’ he said.
“I’m a proud supporter of this vital industry and I’m proud to be a candidate for the Liberal Party which also completely supports the mining and resources industry,’’ he said.
