PRIME MINISTER ALBANESE’S SCULPTURE FAILURE ON FULL DISPLAY

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has failed to provide funding in time to allow the much loved Cottesloe Sculpture by the Sea event to go ahead in 2025.

Liberal for Curtin Tom White and the Coalition are deeply disappointed that the Labor Government and the current member for Curtin have failed the people of Western Australia.

To turn off the funding and then turn up late to the party in an attempt to fix his own mistakes is inexplicable and shows that Mr Albanese is not the Prime Minister we need right now.

The Cottesloe event, which has been going for 20 continuous years, has been left high and dry by the Labor Government, for funding to meet the March 2025 timeframe.

The Coalition understands that Founder David Handley, provided requests to the Labor Government for the March 2025 event, however Labor chose not to provide the funding.

The Coalition understands that the event takes more than three months to prepare and the March 2025 event is no longer going ahead due to the lack of timely funding from the Federal Government.

The Coalition recognises the significance of the event to Cottesloe and to Perth, providing funding whilst in government and providing a quick response for a future funding commitment of $1.5 million over two years, earlier this week.

Shadow Attorney-General Senator Michaelia Cash said Western Australians should be deeply disappointed that Anthony Albanese has let them down again.

“Mr Albanese has been dragged kicking and screaming to make an announcement of funding for Sculpture by the Sea but we are told he’s too late,’’ Senator Cash said.

“It’s typical of how this chaotic Government goes about governing.”

Shadow Minister for the Arts Paul Fletcher said the Labor Government has had its focus on increasing the number of bureaucrats in Canberra, rather than on getting funding to frontline activities.

“Since Labor came to government they have added 80 positions to the arts bureaucracy and the people of Perth get a cancelled event,” Mr Fletcher said.

Liberal candidate for Curtin Tom White said: “The people of Curtin should be disappointed at this bungle by the Albanese Labor Government and the lack of awareness and influence of their current local member.”

“Federal member for Curtin Kate Chaney has failed her local community by being unable to convince the Government to fund the event for March 2025,’’ Mr White said

“When the beach and the local businesses are void of the sculptures and all the positive activity it usually brings this March, the people of Curtin will know that it is both Labor and their current member Kate Chaney that has let them down.”
